Turf information

Size:   Each roll is 1 square metre.  Each roll is 450mm wide by 2.2metres long or 18" x 7.2'  (Sizes are approximate and may vary marginally)

Weight:  Each roll is between 15-25kg.  This will vary depending on the moisture content of the entrenched soil.

Picking up your Turf

We encourage you to collect your turf from us.

As a guide a 6x4 box trailer will generally hold 25 rolls of turf.

Laying your Turf

Turf should be laid as soon as you can.  This is why we open and freshly cut turf on the weekends, to give you time to lay the turf yourself.  If you cannot lay the turf immediately make sure you keep it moist and rolled.

The first row should be laid along the longest straight edge (such as the fence line)
If you are laying on a slope lay the turf across the slope.
The rolls should be laid in a brick pattern.
Each roll should be firmly butted to the adjoining rolls but not overlapping.
Turf rolls can be cut to size using a sharp knife, small pruning saw or sharp spade.
The site should be fully prepared before collecting your turf from us.

Turf - Site preparation tips

For the best results your site should be properly prepared.  Here are some tips for preparation.

1.  Remove all debris from the site (Rocks, Sticks etc.)
2.  Remove any existing grass and weeds (You should use a product such as round-up at least 2 weeks before laying).  Make sure you follow the manufacturers instructions
3.  Till the soil to a depth of 100mm (If you have a large area a rotary hoe is recommended)
4.  If you do not have good quality soil you may need to treat the area with an appropriate improver.  Alternatively you can lay a good quality turf underlay (this is a soil and sand mixture).  A check of the Soil pH level is also advisable.  Ideally it should be above 7.0
5.  Use a straight edge (a piece of timber or a garden rake will do) to set your levels.  Care taken in this step will provide an even final appearance for your new lawn.  This makes mowing and maintenance easy.
6.  The level should be 25-30mm below the level of paths, driveways etc.  This allows the layed turf to finish flush.
7.  When laying the turf the soil should be moist (not too wet or dry).

Caring for your new lawn

Newly laid turf needs to be watered immediately.  It requires a good soaking.  It should be continue to be watered daily for the next fortnight to keep it moist.  Do not saturate the lawn.

Make sure you comply with any current water restrictions.
